Terms of use
These terms explain how Studio Northing works and what you can expect from our free matching service. Please read them before using the site.
1. What Studio Northing does
Studio Northing is a free service that helps homeowners and businesses find and connect with a licensed architect for a project. We may help with custom homes, additions, renovations, ADUs, commercial design, and permit-ready drawings.
We are not an architecture firm. We do not design projects, prepare permit sets, stamp drawings, act as your architect of record, or supervise construction. If you want to learn more about what we help with, see our services or get matched.
Any information on this site is general educational information only. It is not architectural, engineering, or legal advice.
2. No guarantee of matches, pricing, permits, or results
We do our best to connect you with a participating licensed architect who may be a fit for your project. However, we do not guarantee that we will find a match, that an architect will accept your project, or that any architect serves your area.
We do not guarantee pricing, timelines, permit approval, code compliance, or any other project outcome. Rules vary by state, county, and city, and each project is different.
You should use our guides as general background only and confirm details with the architect you hire and with your local building department.
3. Your responsibility when hiring an architect
You are responsible for choosing any architect you decide to work with. Before hiring, you should verify that the architect holds an active license in the state where your project is located and confirm whether any local registration or city-specific requirements also apply.
You should also agree in writing on the scope of work, fees, deliverables, schedule, and any services that are included or excluded. If you are unsure about terms, ask for clarification before signing anything.
We may share general information to help you ask better questions, but we do not replace your own review of the architect's background, license status, or contract.
4. Independent architects and no agency relationship
Participating architects are independent professionals or firms. They are not employees, partners, or agents of Studio Northing.
That means the architect is responsible for the services they provide, their own professional judgment, and their own contracts, fees, licensing, insurance, and work product. We do not control how an architect performs services after an introduction is made.
Any agreement you make is between you and the architect. Studio Northing is not a party to that agreement.
5. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Studio Northing is not liable for any losses, delays, errors, omissions, disputes, construction problems, permit issues, contract issues, or other damages that may arise from your use of the site or from working with any architect you find through our service.
This includes claims based on information on the site, a failed match, an architect's services, or your reliance on general educational content. Use of the site is at your own risk.
Some laws may limit these terms in certain situations. If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
6. Using the site respectfully
Please use the site lawfully and respectfully. Do not submit false information, misuse contact forms, try to access parts of the site you are not allowed to use, or interfere with the site's operation.
If you share information with us, you agree that it may be used to help connect you with a participating architect. For more details about how the service works, visit our services.
We may update these terms from time to time. By continuing to use the site, you agree to the current version of the terms.
In plain English
Studio Northing is a free service that helps you find a licensed architect, but you are responsible for checking the license and agreeing to the job terms directly with that architect.
Common questions
Is Studio Northing an architecture firm?
No. Studio Northing is a free matching service. We help you find and connect with a licensed architect, but we do not provide architectural services ourselves.
Do you give architectural, engineering, or legal advice?
No. The information on this site is general only and is not a substitute for advice from a licensed architect, engineer, lawyer, or local building official.
Can you guarantee that I will get matched or that my permit will be approved?
No. We cannot guarantee a match, a price, a timeline, permit approval, or any project outcome. Those things depend on your project, your location, and the professionals and agencies involved.
Who checks the architect's license?
You should. Before hiring anyone, verify that the architect has an active license in the state where your project is located and confirm any local requirements that may apply.
How do fees and scope get decided?
You and the architect should agree in writing on the scope of work, fee, schedule, and deliverables before work begins. Studio Northing does not set those terms for you.
